The C3A “display” is a different story. It doesn’t bring us high-blue light, it’s not all-weather open, it provides some interesting things for people who want to spend time, and don’t have to worry about sun damage, the most important thing is that it is humble and peaceful. Admittedly, we are not talking about a classic display, but about a light and media device that fuses on the facade of a building.
Under the close and efficient cooperation between architects, artists and media architects, the design concept of the facade is ingenious and unique. The starting point of the media façade is to analyze the important internal structure of the building, including the mosaic (mosaic) pattern of the polygonal room.
Each of the 1319 “bowls” of different sizes is equivalent to a reflector with an integrated adjustable white LED source. By individually controlling the intensity of each light source, the bowl transforms the facade into a large, low-resolution grayscale display. Compared to high-tech screens, the distribution of bowl-shaped pixels does not seem to be regular, but viewers can experience a media facade with a different aesthetic. The number of “bowls”, the way they are aligned, from which angle they are illuminated, or how they blend with the seemingly random patterns on the facade are designed one by one. The entire surface is divided into sections, the application of “pixels” on each section, how they are distributed and how they relate to each other, and the density of distribution, etc., are precisely defined and designed.
The combination of light and shadow that constantly changes with the trajectory of the sun becomes a feature of the surface appearance of this adjusted structure. After entering the night, the lighting facade becomes a communication medium. The main feature of the C3A media facade is its adaptability and versatility.
In addition, due to the close cooperation between architects and media designers, the night image of the media facade perfectly echoes the architectural form and even further explains the architectural forms, especially the interior architecture, as well as the architectural and media facades. How do you interact? This effect is rarely as good as in this project. The disadvantage is that the image and pattern across the huge surface have low resolution, so it is difficult to see in the near future.
